I'm a Cam Newton believer with my Heisman vote
OK. I admit it. I’m a ham for Cam.
I voted Auburn quarterback Cam Newton No. 1 on 2010 my Heisman Trophy ballot but I’m guessing I’m not alone.
I heard about Cam the $cam. How his father put his son in a virtual cart and shopped him around with a pay-to-play proposition. I’ve heard about the other stories that have created more smoke around Cam than Proposition 19 in California.
The NCAA heard them, too, and they found nothing to make him ineligible. So had no reason not to vote for Newton.
I saw what Cam did this season. I saw how he ran with the ball and juke defenders half his size. I saw that he had the arm to thread the needle on a pass over the middle and the touch to loft a throw into the arms of a wide receiver in stride far down the field.
I saw all I needed to see to give him my Heisman Trophy vote.
I voted Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck second. He had a pair of Heisman Trophy-caliber runs and looked every bit like an NFL-ready QB. Basically in my mind Luck would have won the Heisman Trophy in any other year.
This was Cam’s year. An extraordinary year. He was by far the best player on the best team in the country that plays in the best conference in college football.
Any questions?
The SEC has 10 teams playing in bowl games this season. Ten! The Pac-10 has four. Am I the only wondering if the Oregon Ducks, led by Lamichael James (who was No. 3 on my Heisman ballot), can keep up with War Eagle in a high-scoring game in the BCS National Championship Game.
Damn, Cam.
